TRUTH IN THE INWARD PARTS

"Behold, Thou desirest truth in the inward parts: and in the hidden part Thou shalt make me to know wisdom." (Psalm 51:5). God desires that we be honest with Him. He is interested in both what we do, and why we do it. Our actions may seem good on the surface, but the Lord searches out our innermost intentions. He examines our motives to see if our works are wrought in Him, or are "self" propelled. In another Psalm, David says, "Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting." (Psalm 139:23, 24).  David realized that the heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked; therefore we need the Lord's help in discerning what makes us tick. In 1 Corinthians chapter 13, Paul explains that if he were to possess the faith to move mountains, or give all that he had to the poor, or even give himself up as a martyr to the Lord, yet, if he didn't h...

HE THAT OVERCOMETH

There are many promises in the Bible that are addressed specifically to "him that overcometh." They include: • To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God. • He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death. • To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it. • And he that overcometh, and keepeth My works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations. • He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before My Father, and before His angels. • Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of My God. • To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with Me in My throne, even as I also ov...

SAVE THYSELF

"And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided Him, saying, He saved others; let Him save Himself, if He be Christ, the chosen of God. And the soldiers also mocked Him, coming to Him, and offering Him vinegar, and saying, If Thou be the king of the Jews, save Thyself. And a superscription also was written over Him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on Him, saying, If Thou be Christ, save Thyself and us." (Luke 23:35-39). "And they that passed by railed on Him, wagging their heads, and saying, Ah, Thou that destroyest the temple, and buildest it in three days, save Thyself, and come down from the cross." (Mark 15:29, 30). Oh, the wisdom and the depth of God's great love! His plan for our redemption was such that it could not be comprehended by the all the forces of evil. To think that a virgin would conceive, and bear a Son, and that that So...
